LASSITHI BEACHES - CRETE ISLAND - GREECE
Myrtos Beach
Approximately 14 kilometers from Ierapetra and 52 from Agios Nikolaos to the SW is located another beautiful coastal village with an elegant beach: Myrtos. At the southeastern side of the village are preserved the remnants of the ancient town, so try to combine sightseeing with pleasure
Vai Beach
The beach at Vai is very commercial with tour buses from all over the island, fast food, tavernas and corn on the cob sold in the massive parking lot. But Vai deserves the attention. Not only is it one of the nicest beaches in Greece, but it is also the only natural palm tree forest in Europe. There are also a couple huge pelicans that wander around terrorizing sun-bathers by jumping on their backs as they sleep or sunbathe in the rented beach chairs
Elounda Beach
The famous Greek Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou spent several summers here, for this is one of the most elegant, cosmopolitan and organized tourist resorts of Crete. It is located a few kilometers north of Agios Nikolaos and is not influenced by the strong northern winds. Swimming is excellent and nightlife is quite unique at the Spinalogga peninsula
Pachia Ammos Beach
Located approximately 21 kilometers from Agios Nikolaos in the Gulf of Mirabello, Pahia Ammos (Thick Sand) is an elegant coastal village, tourist center and transportation junction for eastern Crete. The white sand beach attracts hundreds of visitors every year.
Makrigialos Beach
Another southeastern village (60 klms form Agios Nikolaos) with a long beach and organized tourism. The remnants of a Minoan house and the Monastery of Saint John are the major historical sights of the village.
