Skala Beach
The sandy town beach in Skala tends to get crowded so if you're planning a full day of sun soaking and swimming you'll be better off taking a bus or water taxi to the more appealing beaches which lie to the north and south of the port along the east coat. Much of the west coast is rocky, inaccessible and wind battered |
Lavadi Geranou Beach
Beautiful beach with sand and tamarisks for plenty of shade. There is a small tavern with a fantastic view on the Aegean Sea and the islands all around. In spring, behind the beach, it is full of orchids. You can reach it by all means of transportation |
Grikos Beach
A former picturesque fishermen's settlement, it is another of the island's 'busy' places, with a fully organised beach, which is lined with a plethora of places to eat or relax. The settlement, at one end of a large beautiful bay boasting a few other more quiet beaches, overlooks the huge rock of Kalikatsou at its other end, else known as Petra (in Greek: stone). Petra has an imposing shape, looking as though it's emerging from the sea, and there is a mystical aura linked with it, since it has been the refuge for many hermits through the centuries, which left their marks on it forever, having carved steps, candle burning cavities and even a cistern |
Kambos Beach
The much busier resort of Kambos lies north east of Agriolivadho 600 metres downhill from Kambos village. The shingle beach is good for families with its calm, shallow waters, plenty of tree shade and lively seaside scene. Numerous hotels line the beach and regular buses from Skala bring day trippers here in droves. You can windsurf, sail, paraglide or rent a canoe. Or just relax in the beachside taverna which serves up the best lobster on the island |
Psili Ammos Beach
Psili Ammos, in the south west corner of Patmos , is a beautiful cove of pure sand with tamarisk trees, sweeping dunes.and a swathe of naked flesh at the far south end where naturists gather. You can catch a caique (water taxi) from Skala or if you want to steal a march on your fellow day trippers, take an early morning cab as far as Diakofti then hike 30 minutes to the beach |
Lambi Beach
Beach with pebbles. This beach has the most beautiful and coloured pebbles of the island. You can go there by all means of transportation and even by bus which will stop you at Christo and from there it is a 20 minutes walk |
Vagia Beach
Pebbly Vagia Beach, an easy walk east of Kambos, is rocky and peaceful (a world
apart from its busy neighbour). Nearby Liyinou is a popular nudist haunt or head
for the sand and gravel beach of Livadhi tou Geranou which has tamarisk trees, a
good taverna and wonderful views of the islets a short way offshore |
Agriolivado Beach
A beach with fine pebble, it is one of the closest to Skala, which is also the reason why it's mainly preferred by locals. It is fully organised and offers a variety of water sports. It's lined with large shady trees and there are a few restaurants serving fish and traditional Greek cuisine, along with a couple of beach bars and cafes |
